We're having an extended Fall here in Minnesota. The leaves are on the trees a bit longer this year.The temperatures are mild and the autumn light is beautiful.A painters play ground. I was lucky today to paint at a favorite spot in Eagan Minnesota .Dodge Nature.It's a wonderful area, and it seems no matter what the weather or light conditions I can always find something pleasing to paint.

I started this a few weeks ago.It was a larger painting than I usually paint. I needed more time but the light changed dramatically. I went back today to finish it up I was pleased that I did.

Marais translates from French to "great marsh," and the town with that
name hosted a plein air event recently at the scenic spot in Minnesota.
The Grand Marais Art Colony
sponsored the event, which centered on the two bays formed by the marsh
and Lake Superior. The winners of Plein Air Grand Marais 2014 are
headed by Bob Upton in First Place. Second Place went to Paula
Gustafson, and Third was won by David Gilsvik. Lisa Stauffer and Andy
Evansen took Honorable Mention awards.

In the Night Paint category, Andy Evansen took the top
spot and Bob Upton won Honorable Mention. The Quick Paint winner was
Christopher Copeland, with Honorable Mention going to Tom Dimock.
Gilsvik won People's Choice.
This event boasts the famous Red Suspender Invitational
competition. In this contest, artists square off against each other
one-on-one in a bracket competition, with the winner earning a coveted
pair of red suspenders. David Gilsvik won the vermilion braces this
year, with Matt Kania coming in second.
