Recently I've been working on a series of barn paintings. These 100 plus old beauties are disappearing quickly from our landscapes here in the midwest. I have started painting them when I find them to document them before they are gone
I had planned to meet a friend to paint, but the forecast overcast and cool ( for May 19) kept my friend indoors.I almost didn't go out to paint. Than I remembered a place I've wanted to paint for a long time. The remains of an old farmstead north of the Twin Cities in Hassan Minnesota. I was dressed for fall weather even though the calander said May 19,2017. Glad I did , painted 2/12 hour gotvery cold. The wind picked up blew the easel over twice ..I knew it was time to go.
This was painted from a study I did last summer in oil. I've been having some issues with solvents , so I'm exploring different mediums for painting .This was painted with Gouache paint a water based opaque paint that can be thinned with water to a transparent color. This is the alley behind our home.
4th. and Division was painted last summer at a plein air event on Hudson Wisconsin.I found it an interesting scene. I liked the way the building was partially hidden behind the trees..
